Lessons From Leadership

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to go to Florida for 6 days (thanks to my husband for holding the fort down with the boys).  I had such a good time heading to warm weather to spend some time learning about leadership.  Here are my top three takeaways:

1.  Gather with friends!
One of the main reasons I made the effort to attend this conference is because my friend from high school, college roommate for two years, and now team member of the IN Stampers lives in Florida and could attend the conference with me.  It was a great excuse for a girls' weekend!  In addition, I got to see my uplines, Chris Wedell (Vintage Rose Stampers) and Glenda Travelstead (SISers) and a bunch of Illinois demonstrators (from where I used to live).  At the conference, I attended several classes.  My favorite was called "Making Friends, Building Teams" taught by Winona Selmer.  She focused on how Stampin' Up! is about gathering, not finding customers.  That's why I love meeting new people, so together we can gather and have fun doing what we love.

2.  Send more cards.
Jason F. Wright, our key note speaker, made me laugh and cry, all the while motivating me to send more cards.  He recently published a book that tells the story of siblings who return to their parents' house after they die to manage their estate, uncovering letters that the husband wrote his wife every Wednesday for their entire marriage.  In his book and in his personal life, he expressed his love for getting letters in the mail and his disdain for technology moving away from the lost art of handwritten mail.  He made me reflect on how important it is to take time to express our feelings to loved ones.  I felt convicted that I am so busy making cards to sell at my craft fairs, I often time lose sight of sending them.  So this year, I vow to send more cards!

3.  Change is good.
For many, change is hard, but after a recent personality profile I took, I understand my type loves change.  For me, I see Stampin' Up! as a company who is always trying new things, evaluating what they are doing, asking for feedback, and adjusting accordingly.  In June, the new 2015-2016 Annual Catalog will be coming out.  With that, a new Stampin' Rewards program for hosts will be announced.  Stampin' Up! will also be restructuring our Compensation Plan and titles for demonstrators, as well as introducing a new opportunity to earn Flex Points rewards.   Yes, change can be hard, but it can also be good.  And I am confident that this is the time to be a part of Stampin' Up!  Exciting things are coming!
