This month in VIP Class, we experimented with soft pastels, a new product introduced in the Annual Catalog last May. These easy to use chalk pastels work with a variety of coloring tools like Stampin' Up!'s Sponge Daubers, Blending Brushes, and Water Painters. Here’s a fun tip: Try scribbling your pastel chalk on a scrap piece of paper to create chalk dust, then use your Water Painters to create your very own watercolor paints!

We tried a few different ways to use them on our 3 cards:
- The Butterfly Brilliance stamp was so fun to color! We stamped in Black, then applied VersaMark with daubers to create a sticky surface, before adding chalk also using daubers.
- The You Are Amazing card was made using an embossing paste background colored by the pastels. Pick a stencil to use, place over white cardstock, apply white or shimmery white embossing paste with palette knives. Then use the spatula side of your Take Your Pick Tool to scrape chalk dust over the paste, as seen here in a rainbow pattern. We added die cut words using the Amazing Thanks dies.
- The last card was made using the Better Places stamp set, which is free to hosts or those who place a $150+ order. Isn't it just begging to be colored? After we colored, we used Wink of Stella to "set" the chalk so it won't smear or fade when you put mail.
The pack comes with 8 colors: Coastal Cabana, Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green, Gorgeous Grape, Mango Melody, Mossy Meadow, Night of Navy, Poppy Parade. They come in a cardboard case for storage and are a great price at only $9! Expand your coloring repertoire & try these out yourself!
