Today is the last day of the April Creative Challenge I have been participating in this month! Next week, I plan to post a blog entry with a recap of all 30 days! Until then, check out today's project using the prompt: Out of the Blue. I love shaker cards and this prompt motivated me to try a technique that I saw on Pinterest and have been meaning to try. Usually I use Foam Strips (coming in June to the new 2016-2017 Stampin' Up! catalog!) but have never tried using washi tape around the edges. And usually I use sequins or handmade confetti on the insides but instead, I tried making my own thanks to a tutorial on Pinterest... |
Yep, those are the gel beads found in the box when you buy a new pair of shoes! I saved some last time I bought some shoes for this very purpose. Now where can I get some more? Because this is the easiest technique ever! I dumped the whole bag in a little condiment dish and then added 6 drops of Soft Sky reinker and stirred around with my Paper Piercer. You can dab with a paper towel, but by the time I got around to that, they were already dry and no ink came off on the towel. |
I then used a Window Sheet on top of the card front and taped around on three sides using washi tape. My advice here is to use a fatter washi, since the one I used was too narrow and I could see the beads leaking a little if the tape didn't stick correctly. So in this case, I added another layer of glitter tape over the washi, thinking two layers is better than one. The easiest way to get the beads in the window was to put them in a baggie and slide the bag opening into the open side of the window. Then, close up the fourth side and that's it! |
So for this card, I used the retired SAB balloon stamp set, but you could also use the current Balloon Celebration set (returning to the new Catalog!). I stamped the balloon first in Soft Sky at the bottom, Pool Party in the middle and Lost Lagoon on top. I love the ombre look! |
